HarperCollins Children’s Books has sold the US rights for Ross Welford’s Time Travelling with a Hamster to Penguin Random House US for a six-figure dollar sum.
The book, acquired by HarperCollins in March, is about a boy called Al who receives a letter from his dead dad that leads him to a time machine.
Penguin Random House US senior editor, Ann Kelley, said: “Time Travelling With A Hamster has it all – heart, humour, and an absolutely enthralling plot. I couldn’t put this book down, and I know young readers are going to feel the same way. It’s truly, truly one of a kind.”
Rights have also sold in the German market and more international deals are “in the offing”, said HarperCollins.
Ross Welford worked as a business journalist before becoming a freelance writer and television producer. Time Travelling with a Hamster is his début children's novel.
Time Travelling With A Hamster will be published in the UK in February 2016 and will be followed by a second standalone novel. US publication date has not yet been confirmed.
