HarperCollins scoops new Shemilt thriller

HarperCollins has scooped a “fascinating” new thriller from Jane Shemilt, author of bestseller Daughter (Penguin).

Phoebe Morgan, editorial director, bought UK and Commonwealth rights to the untitled novel from Eve White at the Eve White Literary Agency. North American rights were acquired by Rachel Kahan at William Morrow in the US.

Shemilt’s new psychological thriller is about a GP who crosses a line with one of her patients — and realises that once the boundaries have been blurred, there’s no way back. HarperCollins UK will publish in spring 2022, alongside Harper US.

Morgan said: “I have been a Jane Shemilt fan ever since she burst onto the scene in 2014 and cannot wait to launch this exciting next chapter of her career at HarperCollins. The novel is at once fascinating, thought-provoking and emotionally intelligent while being a true page-turner with a dark heart. Jane is so brilliant at capturing women’s deepest desires and we have big plans for her at HarperFiction.”

Shemilt said: “I was bowled over by my warm welcome from the whole team at HarperFiction and their exciting ambitions for my writing future. I am absolutely thrilled to be part of Phoebe's wonderful list and to be published by HarperCollins on both sides of the Atlantic is a dream come true."
