A new screen-free smart toy for children will come with stories from the GUNK Aliens and Magic Ballerina series, both published by HarperCollins Children’s Books.
Storyball, created by Storyball Inc, is a gaming device for children which transports them into immersive worlds. The player holds the ball and sensory technology within the device identifies their different movements. The ball then guides play by sending audio, haptic and light clues, signalling what the child should do next.
Storyball has launched a kickstarter campaign managed by the Launchpad Agency to raise $30,000 (£22,500) to fund its product. It has currently raised $23,527(£17,784).
HarperCollins will work with the developer to create immersive storytelling games based on the books, which will also be available to be purchased as part of a Read and Play bundle during the Kickstarter.
Storyball has also partnered with Nickelodeon to bring Paw Patrol to its users.
“We are truly excited to partner with Nickelodeon and HarperCollins to bring child-favorites to life in a new and engaging way,” said Chen Lev, c.e.o. of Storyball. “Entrusting us with their brands shows their recognition of Storyball’s innovation in child development.”
Meir Biton, c.p.o. of Storyball, added: “Our team grew up being active and using our imaginations, which is key in child development. We see kids today more focused on screens and apps and realized they are missing out on that crucial part of development. Storyball was created as an answer to bridge the gap between technology and screen-free, active and engaging play so children can enjoy the best of both worlds.”
