HarperCollins buys McPherson thrillers

HarperCollins has bought two psychological thrillers by debut author Ben McPherson.

Julia Wisdom, publisher of crime and thrillers, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, in the first novel Blood Rising and another following a three-way auction held by Judith Murray at Greene & Heaton. Foreign rights will be handled by Kate Rizzo at Greene & Heaton. Dutch rights have been sold to Luitingh, and Italian to Rizzoli.

Wisdom said: "Ben McPherson is a marvellous discovery.  His voice had me transfixed from page one and his insight into the human psyche is remarkable... I felt [Blood Rising] had real standout in an increasingly crowded field and that Ben is bringing something original and powerful to the table.’

Blood Rising is a novel of suspense set in London and narrated by a young father, whose discovery of a dead body triggers a descent into hell for his close-knit family.HarperCollins will publish in hardback in spring 2015.
