Harlequin MIRA signs debut thriller trilogy

Harelquin MIRA has signed a crime trilogy centred around a surgeon with Asperger's accused of murder.

Commissioning editor Sally Williamson won UK and Commonwealth rights in Nikki Owen's debut trilogy from Adam Gauntlett at Peters, Fraser & Dunlop. The first in the series, The Spider in the Corner of the Room, will be released in spring 2015, backed by an integrated marketing campaign.

Translation rights have also been sold in Germany, Turkey, France and China. NBC Universal International Television has optioned the book to develop a TV series.

Williamson said: "I just couldn’t stop reading Nikki’s book when it came in – she grips you from the first page to the very last, and is a fantastic new talent to watch.  Her brilliant central character Dr Maria Cruz Banderras is set to be the next big name in crime alongside Lisbeth Salander, Saga Nøren and Jason Bourne."
