Hachette Children’s Group has signed a further four picture books from Britta Teckentrup, and one illustrated non-fiction title.
The five-book deal for world rights was brokered by Frances Elks, picture book editorial director, and Liza Miller, senior editor at Wren & Rook, with Jodie Hodges at United Agents.
The non-fiction title will be published on the Wren & Rook list, and will be a follow up to How Big is Our Baby? (written by Smriti Prasadam Halls) which publishes later this month. It has already secured six international publishers.
The four picture books will be published on the Orchard Imprint, and the first of these - entitled Blue - will be released in hardback in April 2020. Blue is the story of a bird who doesn’t sing or fly, and shows the positive changes that can come from meeting a cheerful companion.
Frances Elks, picture book editorial director at Hachette said: “Britta is an incredible author and illustrator, and her books, which have been translated into over twenty languages, really shine in the international market. Her work is timeless, and she tackles important issues with empathy and effortless simplicity. Blue is Britta at her finest: a beautiful, uplifting picture book about sadness, hope and the power of kindness. We’re sure it will appeal to her legions of fans around the world.”
Teckentrup said: “Blue is a book very close to my heart. It is picture book about the love, support and understanding we can give a friend or loved one when they go through sad and difficult times.”
Teckentrup is an illustrator, fine artist and writer, and has now created over 90 books. She has been translated into 20 languages worldwide.
