Hachette UK will host a free event in April with author Laura Kay and her editor Emma Capron which aims to demystify publishing for LGBTQIA+ aspiring writers and publishers.
Hosted by its LGBTQIA+ employee network, Pride, the publisher said the event will “celebrate romantic and comedic queer fiction as well as sharing some practical advice for finding your voice as a publisher or writer”.
The webinar, which will be hosted via Zoom on Thursday 1st April from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., will also celebrate the publication of The Split (Quercus). Hachette Pride will be in conversation with the author, Laura Kay, and Capron, senior commissioning editor at Quercus Fiction, who will discuss the importance of writing about LGBTQIA+ characters and friendship. Capron will also share how she won a six-way auction for the book, and how she edited it.
The event forms part of Hachette UK’s wider diversity and inclusion programme, Changing the Story, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year.
Sophia Blackwell, co-chair at Hachette Pride, commented: “This online event is one of Hachette Pride’s steps this year towards helping new writers and publishers find their voices and see the potential in their stories.
“To celebrate the anniversary of Changing the Story at Hachette UK, the Pride network aims to demystify publishing for LGBTQIA+ aspiring writers and publishers, celebrating romantic and comedic queer fiction and celebrating the good things in life, as well as sharing some practical advice about the publishing process.”
