Walker Books and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) are attempting to break a Guinness world record for the "largest reading lesson" to mark the 25th anniversary of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury.
On 15th July 1,000 children will gather in Colchester, Essex, for the event, hosted by Rosen. It will be streamed live online and four venues – Seven Stories in Newcastle, Discover Story Centre in London, the Story Museum in Oxford, and the New Central Library in Birmingham – will host in-house screening events.
All children attending the events will be asked to donate £1, with all the money going to Read for RNIB Day, a charity event organised by the RNIB to raise money for books for blind or partially sighted people.
The current Guinness world record for the "largest reading lesson" is held by the Read Foundation in Pakistan, who gathered 441 participants at the Bhimber Stadium in Azad Kashmir in April 2013.
