Guardian Faber has signed a book on the history of bird names by nature writer Stephen Moss.
Mrs Moreau's Warbler: How Birds Got Their Names will be published in autumn 2017, following a deal for world English rights between Laura Hassan at Guardian Faber and Broo Doherty at DHH Literary Agency.
The book will explore how birds such as peregrines, ptarmigans, hobbies and hoopoes got their evocative names, combining folklore, natural history and personal observations.
Moss has worked on TV programmes including "Springwatch" and "Birds Britannica", and written several other books on British wildlife. He is also the author of the monthly Birdwatch column in the Guardian.
