Groups look ahead to Harry Potter Book Night

More than 7,000 groups have signed up to take part in Harry Potter Book Night, which takes place on 5th February. Schools, libraries, bookshops and community groups have registered by requesting an activity pack from Bloomsbury.

The Reading Agency’s 1,000 Chatterbooks reading groups are hosting an event, as are 240 Brownies and 80 Girl Guides groups. Events are scheduled in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Singapore, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Mexico, India, Ireland, Norway, Romania, Russia, South Africa,Thailand, Ukraine, the UK and the US.

Harry Potter Book Night was launched by Bloomsbury to celebrate the print books and introduce new readers—specifically younger children— to the series.

This year’s event will focus on the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. On the night, writer Damian Kelleher will host a party at Waterstones Piccadilly, featuring authors such as Laura Dockrill and the team behind online fan site Pottermore. Jonny Duddle, the illustrator of the new Harry Potter covers, will appear at the party after taking part in an event at the Oxford Story Museum earlier in the day.

Anyone wishing to participate can download a kit from the website HarryPotterBookNight.com. The package includes invitation templates, games, quizzes and an event poster.
