Granta Books has signed a non-fiction title on proposal by Lorna Gibb, looking at the concept of childlessness.
The book will combine memoir, reportage and social science, and look at the condition of childlessness around the world, from stolen Aboriginal babies to the discrimination of the modern workplace.
UK and Commonwealth rights were signed from Peter Straus at RCW. Senior editor Max Porter said: "This is an important book and Lorna is the perfect writer for it. She is brave, wise and a remarkable storyteller."
The book is scheduled for publication on 2019. Gibb is a biographer and novelist, whose forthcoming novel A Ghost's Story will be published by Granta in November 2015.
