Granta to launch three new international editions

Literary magazine Granta is launching three new international editions in Turkey, Finland and Portugal.

This brings the number of foreign sister editions up to ten, and the combined print run to more than 100,000 copies.

Granta already has issues published or forthcoming in Swedish, Norwegian, Bulgarian, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, and Brazilian Portuguese.

Editor John Freeman said: “We are looking forward to working with editors at Otova in Finland, Tinta-da-China in Portugal and Everest in Turkey. Granta’s goal has always been to put the best of the Anglo-American tradition next to best of the world. These foreign-language editions—because they are a mix of translated pieces from Granta in English, and commissioned pieces in their own languages—do that in a special way.”

He added: “Writers we originally publish in English have a wider reach, and through the filter of our editors around the globe, my hope is we can find the next Pamuk or Kmal or Saramago or Oksanen faster than ever.”
