Google and a group of authors and publishers are believed to be in discussions with the US Justice Department about changes to the book settlement, Bloomberg reports.
According to "two people familiar with the discussions", the talks are aimed at making changes to ease concerns that the deal would let Google discourage other companies from competing for access to the books online.
US District Judge Denny Chin in New York yesterday ordered Google and the other parties to the settlement to respond to an outpouring of viewpoints questioning the plan to create a digital book library.
Publishers Weekly reports that Chin, who will preside over the Settlement fairness hearing on October 7th, acknowledged receipt of more than 400 written filings. Parties have until 2nd October to respond to these filings.
