The revised Google settlement has been granted preliminary approval by New York district judge Denny Chin, who said it had come "within the range of possible approval". A final hearing will be held on 18th February 2010 to determine whether the terms and conditions of the amended agreement are "fair, reasonable and accurate", and as such can be approved by the court.
The 'Supplemental Notice Commencement Date' will be 14th December, and the supplemental opt-out, opt-in and objection deadline is 28th January. Members of the 'Amended Settlement Class' who opted out of the original settlement will be considered to have opted out of the settlement unless they opt in by 28th January.
The settlement was filed at the court late last week (13th November). Among the changes are the inclusion of the UK, Canada and Australia alongside the US as plaintiffs.
Some of those named on the court document included authors Margaret Drabble and Maureen Duffy, as well as publishers Pearson, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, Harlequin, and Australian publisher Text.
