Ebury Enterprises has bought a poetry anthology called 101 Poems to See You Through: Bright Poems for the Darkest Hours.
Publishing director Carey Smith acquired UK and Commonwealth rights for the collection by Daisy Goodwin from Caroline Michel at PFD.
Goodwin, a TV producer and editor of The Nation’s Favourite Poems, was inspired to compile the anthology after the death of her mother, interior designer Jocasta Innes, from cancer last year.
All royalties from the book will go to Maggie’s Centres, where people with cancer can find emotional and practical support they need to complement their medical treatment.
The collection includes poems by John Donne, Thomas Hardy, Wendy Cope and Carol Ann Duffy.
Goodwin said: “I am always being asked to recommend poems to people at times of emotional upheaval. These are the poems that I would reach for in the small hours. It can make such a difference to know that you are not alone.
“I hope this books will help its readers and raise money for the wonderful Maggie’s Centres which are beacons of humanity in the often brutal world of cancer treatment.”
No publication date has yet been announced.
