Gollancz has acquired The Furthest Station, a new, first novella in the PC Grant series by Ben Aaronovitch, for publication in September 2017.
Publishing director Gillian Redfearn acquired world rights (excluding the USA, France and Germany, which are represented by agent) from John Berlyne of the Zeno Literary Agency.
The Furthest Station is Aaronovitch’s first PC Grant novella, a ghost story about "something going bump on the Metropolitan line" that PC Grant gets the call to investigate leading to a ghost-hunting expedition.
Redfearn called it "a gripping mystery, brought to life by Ben Aaronovitch’s wit and wisdom" as well as "a story of modern London and modern families " and "a future bestseller".
The unabridged audio edition – read by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith – and e-book edition will be published simultaneously with the hardback on 21st September.
Aaronovitch said he at last saw the appeal of the novella for both writers and readers and that he may be tempted to author more. "Novellas allow you to tell a story in a very elegant, streamlined fashion. Something you can read quickly but without feeling cheated at the end. I may write more," he said.
