Gollancz has snapped up a debut fantasy novel as part of a two-book pre-empt deal.
Deputy publishing director Simon Spanton bought UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, to the books by C Robert Cargill from Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein acting on behalf of Peter McGuigan at Foundry in the USA.
The first novel is tentatively titled Dreamstuff, and will be published by Gollancz in early 2013. It is a contemporary fantasy that follows two boys, Ewan and Colby, who are drawn into a faerie realm.
Spanton said: "It's that rare thing, a fantasy like nothing I've read that will, I'm sure, appeal to the widest possible readership."
Both books were also pre-empted by Diana Gill at HarperCollins in the US.
