Giles responds to merger criticism

<p>Alan Giles has continued to defend HMV's plans to acquire Ottakar's. This week he wrote to Scottish newspaper The Herald to refute "factually incorrect observations about the Waterstone's business" made by Scottish writers opposed to the deal.

In a letter to The Herald, the chief executive of HMV claimed that, following a merger of Waterstone's and Ottakar's, Waterstone's would be in a position to "widen the range of titles available in existing Ottakar's shops".
