German book sales fell 6.5% year-on-year in May, and have now fallen by 5.5% so far this year.
According to http://publishingperspectives.com/?p=16924" target="_blank">Publishing Perspectives this can partly be put down to the fac that there was one fewer shopping day in May this year as 1st May holiday fell on a Saturday, meaning the shops were shut on a usual shopping day.
However, according to Buchreport only 4% of the drop is attributable to the reduced shopping days.
Prospects for June are looking up, with an extra shopping day compared with 2009. Also the next Stephenie Meyer title to be released in Germany, Bis(s) zum ersten Sonnenstrahl (Rising Sun) could provide extra sales.
