Gardners is launching an “Indie Bookshop Recommends” range for book clubs and has offered to match publisher discounts to indies, as part of a new promotion.
The promotion, branded the Independent Booksellers Affiliates Programme, will launch in April with a range of at least 10 front and backlist titles offered at 50% discount. Ten or more titles a month with extra discounts will then be chosen with no commitment needed from the retailer to buy a specific quantity.
Gardners will run an “Indie Bookshop Recommends” range, with titles that could be suitable for a book club. Ten further titles will be selected each month by a booksellers’ panel from a range which has been submitted by publishers. There will also be supporting point of sale.
Bob Jackson, Gardners commercial director, said: “We’re keen to support the individuality of each bookshop and not treat them as a club or a buying group.”
The wholesaler also said it would match promotional terms participating publishers give when trading directly with independents. Earlier this month The Bookseller reported that more indies were buying books directly from publishers.
