An independent bookshop to be run by an indie publisher will host an interactive website and offer home delivery when it opens in London next month.
Belgravia Books, launched by publisher Gallic Books, will first welcome customers to its premises on 59 Ebury Street, London, on 26th September and will focus on selling translated fiction and titles from fellow independent publishers.
It plans to hold author events, book signings, host reading groups, workshops and discussions and focus on schools, as well as offering free tea and coffee to customers. It will also offer delivery to workplaces and homes.
An interactive website will promote books featured on the Bookswarm family of websites and display customers reviews provided by social networking site Bookgeeks. The bookshop has close ties to The Big Green Bookshop in Wood Green, London and will offer customers the opportunity to collect ordered books there or from its Ebury location. The two bookshops also plan run events together.
Jane Aitken, founder and m.d of Gallic Books, said: “We are so excited to be realising our long-held dream of opening a bookshop. We want Belgravia Books to become an integral and active part of the local community, and the Big Green Bookshop, itself a model of local bookselling, has been more than generous in sharing ideas with us.
“We also have the benefit of the combined skill and expertise of operations director, Alison Savage and head of sales, Guy Ramage, both former Borders managers, to help guide our way. Alison Savage will take on the role of Belgravia Books manager.”
Gallic Books' publishing and translation businesses will also move from its current Chelsea-based address to Ebury Street.
