gal-dem magazine is launching a new podcast, featuring author Candice Carty-Williams (pictured) in its first season.
Launched in collaboration with Acast, the "Growing Up With" gal-dem podcast will explore "the crucial journey from adolescence to adulthood and the pivotal lessons that are learned along the way".
Candice Carty-Williams, author of Queenie (Orion), will feature in the first season, reflecting on the "pressures of facing depression as a young Caribbean woman".
The series will also include interviews with singer-songwriter Sasha Keable, Singaporean artist Elizabeth Gabrielle Lee, model and activist Munroe Bergdorf and Naeem Davis, founder of queer, trans and non-binary club night BBZ.
It will be hosted by magazine founder and c.e.o. Liv Little, and head of editorial Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff.
Little said: “The premise for this podcast and our book is incredibly intimate, which I personally love and is the beauty that comes with audio. The fact that our guests have shared personal musings, text messages and insights from when they were younger is such a privilege.
"Some of the entries are funny, some are heartbreaking and others cringe-worthy. Still, the beautiful thing about revisiting old texts and reflecting upon them is that our guests have been able to take stock and offer honest advice to our readers. Our first gal-dem podcast couldn't be any more special and our first line up of guests is iconic.”
The podcast is partly inspired by gal-dem's book, I Will Not be Erased (Walker Books), which was published last June.
Acast content development manager Clarissa Pabi commented: "gal-dem are undoubtedly one of the most creative and culturally relevant publishers to emerge over the last few years and I’m a huge admirer of their work and their ability to amplify different voices in such an effortlessly inclusive and interesting way.
"I’m delighted to have been working with the team at gal-dem to launch their first podcast series and I’m excited to see them extend their platform further, with an audio identity, and make an impact in the podcasting world."
The first episode will be released on 30th April, and will be available on Acast, Spotify and Apple podcasts.
