Gaia, part of the Octopus Publishing Group, has acquired Kate Humble's debut cookbook Home Cooked: Recipes from the Farm, for publication in February 2022.
Stephanie Jackson, publisher, acquired United Kingdom and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Rosemary Scoular at United Agents.
Alongside photography by Andrew Montgomery, the title will feature more than 100 recipes inspired by Humble’s rural life at home in Wales and the popularity of cooking segments on her TV programmes, the publisher said. It contains seasonal dishes, with the spring selection including a ham sandwich on beer bread with piccalilli, spring chicken with wild garlic and new potatoes, and rhubarb vodka.
Jackson said of the acquisition: "Home Cooked is everything you might expect from Kate Humble: it’s generous, engaging and connected to the countryside. Full of pleasingly simple and properly delicious food, you’ll want to cook from it again and again (as I have) – and share it with others, too. Kate’s audience has been asking for this book for a long time, and we’re hugely proud she’s entrusted us with publishing her first cookbook."
Octopus has previously published two of Humble's narrative books under it's Aster imprint: Thinking on My Feet (2018) and A Year of Living Simply (2020). Aster has now also acquired Humble's backlist titles, 2013's Humble by Nature and 2017's Friend for Life, from Headline and will be reissuing them in November this year.
Humble, who is the presenter of shows such as "Animal Park", "Springwatch", "Lambing Live" and "Escape to the Farm", commented: "It is an author’s dream to develop a supportive, collaborative relationship with a publisher; one that allows for growth and experimentation and encourages both. I feel extremely lucky to have this with Stephanie Jackson and her team and for the opportunity to write Home Cooked."
