North American independent publisher Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group (RLPG) is to launch a new academic publishing business located in London.
Rowman & Littlefield International will be run by former Continuum c.e.o. Oliver Gadsby and will publish in the humanities and social sciences for a global academic audience. Gadsby "will recruit a strong creative team capable of addressing the information needs of students and academics in Europe and across the world", the publisher said.
Jed Lyons, c.e.o. of RLPG, said: "This new initiative will significantly boost the profile of Rowman & Littlefield with students, faculty and libraries outside North America, the region which has been our core market since our foundation over 35 years ago."
Gadsby said: "I am delighted to be launching a new publishing business at a time when technology is opening up new modes of collaboration and communication in the world of higher education. We intend to establish close connections with academic communities, to be a dynamic and responsive partner in disseminating research and learning - and to make strong use of technology through every aspect of that process."
Lyons and Gadsby will be joined on the board of Rowman & Littlefield International by Ken Rhodes, new general manager of NBN International, RLPG's UK-based distribution company.
