Music journalist Martin Aston is to tell the story of record label 4AD in a book for The Friday Project, with exclusive access to the label's founder Ivo Watts-Russell.
1980 Forward: The Story of 4AD was acquired directly from the author by TFP publisher Scott Pack and will be published in a hardback and limited collector's edition in the summer of 2013.
4AD was started in 1980 and was the home of artists including the Cocteau Twins, the Pixies [pictured], Throwing Muses, Bauhaus, Dead Can Dance and The The.
Aston is said to have had a close relationship with the label, writing about many of its artists and about Watts-Russell.
The author called the book "the story of both a label and of one man's journey and vision; a vision that is still obsessively revered and celebrated for the extraordinary and unique sound and visual imagery that meant people bought records on 4AD simply because they were on 4AD."
