Friday Project acquires William Wharton memoir

The Friday Project has acquired 11 books by late American author William Wharton, with the deal including his never-before-published Second World War memoir, Shrapnel.

Publisher Scott Pack bought world English language rights, excluding US and Canada, to the titles through Rosalie Siegel, representing the Wharton estate in Britain. The books which make up the deal are: Birdy, A Midnight Clear, Dad, Last Lovers, Pride, Tidings, Franky Furbo, Scumbler, Wrongful Deaths, Houseboat on the Seine and Shrapnel.

Pack said: "William Wharton is a wonderful American writer with an amazing list of titles but these have languished out of print for far too long. I can't wait to see them back in bookshops and, for the first time, on e-readers."

The Friday Project will publish Shrapnel in spring 2012, with paperback and e-book reissues of the other books to follow across the next 18 months.
