Freight Books has bought an “edgy” debut story collection from Manchester-based author Lara Williams.
Publisher Adrian Searle bought world rights to Treats from Becky Thomas at Johnson and Alcock, described as a "break up album of short stories."
Adrian Searle, publisher at Freight, said: "Lara Williams is an elegant, edgy, utterly beguiling new voice. I first became aware of her when we published an early story in Gutter magazine. Considering her youth at the time, it was dazzlingly assured. In terms of bravura talent, she has much in common with another Manchester-based Freight writer, Green Carnation Prize-winner Anneliese Mackintosh, and I'm certain Lara has a great career ahead of her."
Williams has published fiction and non-fiction, essays and comment pieces for the Guardian, NME and the Manchester Evening News.
She is a graduate of The Manchester Writing School.
