The Manchester Independent Book Market 2012 is offering a free e-book sampler of the work of all writers reading at the event to visitors bringing Kindles with them. An epub format version for other devices will also be available.
The event, which runs this Friday and Saturday [8th-9th June] in St Ann's Square, Manchester, aims to introduce the public to work from a variety of independent publishers, with back-to-back live performances by poets, novelists and short story writers.
Writers taking part will include novelist Kitty Fitzgerald, whose Pigtopia was published by Faber, poet John Siddique and writer David Gaffney [both published by Salt]. Performance poet Dean Atta will headline the event.
Publishers involved in the book market this year include Peepal Tree Press, Comma Press, Route, Miel Books and Holland Park Press, alongside writing organisations and collectives such as Commonword and Bad Language.
Manchester City Council executive member for neighbourhood services councillor Bernard Priest said: "The Independent Book Market has gone from strength to strength over the last five years and I'm sure it will be even more popular this year."
