Fox to voice audio edition of Hislop’s One August Night

Emilia Fox is narrating Victoria Hislop’s One August Night (Headline Review), 15 years after reading for its predecessor, The Island.

Best known for her role on "Silent Witness", Fox worked on the audio editions of Hislop's bestselling debut and will now voice the long-awaited sequel, with Headline promising "a truly magical performance".

One August Night reunites readers with Anna, Maria, Manolis and Andreas in the weeks leading up to the evacuation of Spinalonga, and through its aftermath.

The synopsis reads: "25th August 1957 is the night of a great celebration held in Plaka to mark the closure of the leper colony which sits across the bay: Spinalonga. A cure has been found, and the residents of the island are finally free to return to their families and lives.

"But a tragic and violent event turns the night upside down; as some are given their liberty, others are condemned to lose theirs. Those who remain must face unthinkable loss and rebuild the lives they thought they knew."

Managing editor, audio Hannah Cawse, said: "Emilia Fox has given a truly magical performance of One August Night. We’re over the moon to have her narrating the audiobook and reuniting us with such beloved characters."

Hislop said: "I am thrilled that Emilia has read One August Night—especially because she was with us for The Island. It’s perfect continuity."

Fox called the novel "a wonderfully immersive novel with brilliant, lively characters", saying: "I know listeners will fall in love with it as much as I have."
