Fortune favours the Fighting Fantasy series

Scholastic will relaunch the Fighting Fantasy series in its 35th anniversary year, after editorial director Lauren Fortune acquired world rights to an original series authored by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson, and a new book for readers aged eight-plus, from Philippa Milnes-Smith at the LAW Agency.

Fortune said: “A whole generation grew up reading the Fighting Fantasy series in the 1980s and ’90s, often reluctant readers for whom this was an important gateway into books. There is so much to appeal to today’s young readers: the best monsters, the chance to create your own path through the story, the empowering set-up that in the Fighting Fantasy world, you—the reader—are the hero. I couldn’t be prouder to be republishing them.”

Scholastic will publish Livingstone’s The Port of Peril, along with five repackaged titles from the original series, in August. A  further batch will follow in 2018, with future titles also planned.
