Former publisher Hudson pens 'clean teen' novel

Val Hudson, former publisher at HarperCollins and Headline, is publishing a “clean teen” novel with Orchard Books.

Written under the pseudonym Chloe Bennet, who is the main character in the novel, Boywatching is about four teenage girls in the run-up to the annual school dance. Chloe and her friends are determined not to repeat last year’s disaster, when they were humiliated on Facebook by another girl in school, so are determined to embark on some “boywatching”.

Orchard Books will publish the title in summer 2015, with an unnamed second book to follow in spring 2016. Rosalind McIntosh, senior editor at Orchard Books, acquired the world rights, excluding the US and Canada, from Caroline Sheldon of the Caroline Sheldon Literary Agency.

“We are thrilled to be publishing Boywatching at Orchard Books,” said McIntosh. “It's brilliantly funny and so relatable – I think anyone who is or has been a teenage girl will warm instantly to Chloe and her friends’ experiences. This is the perfect summer read and I can’t wait to introduce it to teenagers around the world.”

Hudson is also the author of the  A Simples Life —The Life and Times of Aleksandr Orlov (Ebury), about the Meerkat star of the ‘Compare the Market’ advertising campaign.
