The Folio Society is launching a new series of books called Folio Collectables.
The series will feature soft-bound covers and bold new designs of best-loved classics.
The range is intended to be highly collectable - and giftable - available in time for Christmas 2015, selling for an r.r.p of £19.95. The first four titles in the range are The Hound of the Baskervilles, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Frankenstein and A Christmas Carol.
Editorial director Tom Walker said: “I am delighted with this new series. It clearly demonstrates our commitment to Charles Ede’s founding principle for The Folio Society, to produce 'editions of the world’s great literature, in a format worthy of the contents, at a price within the reach of everyman'. The books maintain our dedication to the highest editorial, artistic and production standards at an attractive price.”
The books are printed sheet-fed, sewn in 16 page sections, cloth-bound and foilblocked, and feature head- and tail-bands, marker ribbons, coloured tops, two-colour title pages and black-and-white illustrations throughout sourced from Folio’s archive. The books are designed by Folio’s art department and production team.
The Folio Society ceased renewal of its sponsorship of The Folio Prize in May because it said it wanted to move towards “new opportunities” in “the world of fine book publishing”.
