Members of the Folio Prize's "Academy" are to make their personal recommendations for books that would have won the award had it been established years ago.
Philip Pullman, Brett Easton Ellis, Julie Myerson and Rachel Cooke will be the first contributors to a daily blog feature on the prize's website, from next week (8th July).
The recommendations will build up to the announcement of the inaugural Folio Prize judges on the 16th July.
Prize administrator Suzy Lucas said: "One of the chief ambitions of The Folio Prize is to give people the opportunity to find great books that might otherwise lie unread. Our Academicians' choices do exactly that – they date from 179AD to the present day and take in all manner of forms, styles and preoccupations. We challenge anyone not to want to read them all whether they be undiscovered or simply worth rediscovering."
The Folio Prize Academy is an international group of writers and critics who will select the titles to be considered for the Prize shortlist, with the judging panel selected from among their number.
The inaugural Prize, worth £40,000, will be awarded in March 2014.
