Compass Maps is challenging the owner of Berlitz travel guides in the High Court over a foldaway map inspired by a 2,000-year-old origami called the Unfolding Flower, reports the Times.
Derek Dacey, 58, the inventor, claims that his design has been stolen. His company, Compass Maps, is suing Berlitz travel guides over the rights to the design. Until 2005 Compass had a distribution deal with GeoCenter, part of the Langenscheidt Publishing Group, which purchased Berlitz.
In April 2006 GeoCenter launched its own pop-up maps.
