Students from the University of Dundee and the Edinburgh College of Art are on the shortlist for a new book cover design prize, organised by Edinburgh-based publisher Floris Books.
The award is for the best new cover for forthcoming novel The Sign of the Black Dagger by Joan Lingard. Ten amateur designers and illustrators from Scotland have made the shortlist and their designs will be on display at Edinburgh’s Gallery Seventeen until 14th March, when the winner and two runners-up will be announced.
The winner will see their cover on the book when it is published in the autumn as part of Floris’ Kelpies range of Scottish children’s novels.
Leah McDowell, design and production manager at Floris Books, said: “We have seen an exceptional level of talent and creativity on display in what we hope will be the first of many [prizes]. Scotland’s creative community has risen to the challenge and we hope the prize will continue to grow year on year.”
The Kelpies range, published since 2002, comprises more than 60 novels set in Scotland for children aged 8-12.
