Journalist and novelist Molly Flatt has been appointed comment editor of The Bookseller.
The move means Flatt will now commission opinion pieces across The Bookseller, including online, in print and on FutureBook. Flatt joined the company in 2016 as associate editor of FutureBook.
The Bookseller editor Philip Jones said: “In this expanded role, Molly will focus on making The Bookseller the place for thought-provoking pieces confronting the most provocative questions facing the book business today.”
Flatt, who recently published her first novel, The Charmed Life of Alex Moore (Picador), said: “’I am delighted to take on the new role and excited by the additional scope it affords. It’s time for 'innovation’ and ‘mainstream’ opinions to stop being siloed and sit side by side in a way that will place big names from the big five on an equal footing with indies, entrepreneurs and outsiders. Everyone has to be digital now, everyone has to be future-facing. I can’t wait to showcase the industry’s sharpest debates and freshest ideas."
