Pan Macmillan’s Carole Tonkinson has made her first acquisition for the publisher’s new non-fiction imprint.
Tonkinson bought UK and Commonwealth rights to Sharon Salzberg’s Real Love from Joy Harris of the Joy Harris Literary Agency in New York in a joint deal with Bob Miller at Macmillan US imprint Flatiron Books and Margit Ketterle at Droemer Knaur in Germany.
Salzberg is a meditation teacher, and in Real Love will “redefine love from a mindfulness perspective, offering new ways to achieve deeper love relationships – with parents, with friends and with oneself”. The author has previously written books including Real Happiness at Work (Workman Publishing).
Tonkinson joined Pan Macmillan on 17th November, and this is her first acquisition for her yet-to-be-named non-fiction imprint.
She said: “I am absolutely thrilled Sharon Salzberg is one of the first authors on the launch list. Sharon is not only a New York Times bestselling writer, but also one of the people most responsible for bringing mindfulness to the West. It will be wonderful to see her turn her attention to the all-important topic of love. I am delighted, too, to be working so closely with my new colleagues Bob Miller in New York and Margit Ketterle in Germany on this very important acquisition.”
Pan Macmillan will publish Real Love in early 2016.
