Firefly buys new Kat Ellis novel

Penny Thomas, publisher at Wales-based Firefly Press, has acquired world English rights to Purge, a YA novel by author Kat Ellis.

The novel, described as a powerful and romantic excursion into futuristic fantasy, is about a 17-year-old called Mason who is kicked out of his community. Forced to seek shelter with people who believe purging is good for the soul, Mason is forced to go through a terrifying virtual reality programme that alters his personality.

Thomas, who acquired the rights from Molly Ker Hawn at the Bent Agency, said: “This is a great title for Firefly. Kat is an emerging YA writer of real skill, and a talent for creating scary and compelling new fictional worlds and characters”

Ellis is also the author of Blackfin Sky, which was published by Firefly in 2014, and Breaker, which will be released in the US next spring by Running Press Teen.

Running Press has world English rights and will distribute Breaker in the UK via Perseus Books Group.
