Accent Press’s crime thriller By Any Name by Katherine John, first published in 1995, is being made into an action adventure film.
Tanabi Films has adapted the novel for the big screen in a deal negotiated with Luke Speed of Marjacq Scripts Ltd. The film will star actor and combat expert Cengiz Dervis in the lead role of John West, the blood-stained stranger who is suffering amnesia and is the centre of a manhunt across the Welsh countryside. Bollywood actress Samira Mohammed Ali is to play psychologist Elizabeth Santer, who is taken hostage by West.
Hazel Cushion, founder and managing director of Accent Press, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to work alongside another dynamic independent creative company to bring one of Wales’ best-loved authors to a global film market. Katherine John is one of our most popular and successful crime writers and this film project has generated more interest in her new work The Defeated Aristocrat.”
The screenplay has been written by John, real name Karen Watkins, who is working closely with the director. Filming will take place in Swansea and the Brecon Beacons between 24th August and mid-September.
Accent Press will reissue the novel with a new jacket to tie-in with the film’s scheduled release next year. It will also publish John’s new historical crime novel The Defeated Aristocrat: Konigsberg 1919 in February 2015.
John has published nine crime novels with Accent Press. She also writes as historical and romantic fiction author Catrin Collier. Last year Accent Press signed a deal with Collier to publish six new titles and 19 of her backlist romances.
The latest title in Collier’s The Long Road to Baghdad trilogy, The Winds of Eden, will be published on 28th August.
