Film novelisation for Gollancz

Film novelisation for Gollancz

Gollancz is to publish the novelisation of "Robot Overlords", a film starring Ben Kingsley and Gillian Anderson due for release in early 2015.

The book's author will be Mark Stay, who works as Orion’s online key accounts director by day, and also co-created and co-wrote the "Robot Overlords" film with Jon Wright.

Publishing director Gillian Redfearn acquired world rights to the book from Hilary Delamere of The Agency and will publish to coincide with release of the film.

"Robot Overlords" follows a group of teenagers in the wake of Earth’s invasion by robots, and their regime which confines human survivors to their homes. The novelisation will target a “crossover readership”, in particular readers aged between nine and 14.

Gollancz said: “There will be edge-of-your-seat action from the very beginning, extra scenes, bonus material for attentive readers and fans of the film, and illustrations.”

Redfearn said: “I’m so delighted to work with Mark Stay as a novelist, on a project that we’ve had the fortune to watch develop from a glimmer in his eye to an incredible British film production. It’s genuinely exciting to work with such a great UK team, and to be publishing such a cracking story – one which might literally blow your socks off.”

Stay said: "Piers, Jon and I talked about a book from the very beginning, and we’re huge fans of those classic 80s movie tie-in novels. I couldn’t be more excited that Gollancz are the publishers. If you want the world to share in your fun, action and robot carnage, you go to the best SF publisher in the business."

Robot Overlords will be published as a B-format paperback with a movie tie-in cover.
