Fifty members of staff at Macmillan's Basingstoke site are to take redundancy rather than move to the new Macmillan Science and Education campus in King's Cross next year, The Bookseller understands.
The departing staff come from across the approximately 400 workers at the site which includes Palgrave Macmillan, Palgrave Macmillan Higher Education, some Nature Publishing Group staff and some staff from the Digital Science business.
Around 110 members of staff have been involved in choosing relocation or redundancy. Approximately 60 will now relocate to the King's Cross campus in a phased process over the course of 2014. Other staff members working in archive distribution and operations will remain at the Basingstoke site.
The news comes in the wake of 85 departures this autumn at Macmillan Education, which has now moved from Oxford into the King's Cross campus.
Macmillan Science and Education is gathering all its businesses into a single location as it looks to "more emphasis on collaboration, invention and fluidity" in its future direction.
A spokesperson for Macmillan Science and Education said the publisher had no further comment to make on the relocation and redundancies.
