Century is to publish The Dirty Game: Uncovering the Scandal at FIFA by Andrew Jennings, the investigative reporter whose evidence provided the basis of the FBI investigation that led to the arrests of FIFA executives and the resignation of Sepp Blatter.
Jennings has been investigating FIFA for more than a decade, and in The Dirty Game he “uncovers the eye-watering level of fraud and criminal activity at the heart of FIFA, which has been described as the biggest sporting scandal of the century”.
A spokesperson for Century said the book was the “definitive portrait of the downfall of FIFA, and the men who stole football”.
Senior editor Ben Brusey bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Patrick Walsh at Conville & Walsh.
Brusey said: “Andrew Jennings pursued this story when no one else would, and when most journalists and organisations were too intimidated to say a bad word about FIFA. His evidence was instrumental to the FBI’s investigation and this book was years in the making. We are honoured to be publishing such a great work of investigative journalism at Century, and I am in no doubt that it will become the definitive book on the subject.”
Jennings said: “It has been a long haul, 13 hard years, but I hung in because of the awful stench from Sepp Blatter’s FIFA. Every year it got smellier and then, six years ago, the FBI came to me, asked for help and promised to open the windows, let in fresh air and clear out the corrupt and the lowlifes. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to trigger the change that everybody has dreamed of.”
Century will publish in trade paperback and e-book on 10th September 2015.
