Field heads John Smith&Son

<p>Terry Field is the new managing director of John Smith&amp;Son, the 27-branch academic and professional bookseller. He succeeds Willie Anderson, who becomes deputy chairman.

Field, who left his post as operations director at Blackwell's a year ago, joined John Smith last September as deputy m.d. The "smooth and amicable" changeover would happen with immediate effect, Anderson said. "The company is moving on, and it needs new skills. Terry is youthful and determined, and he'll deliver what's asked of him."
