Fern Britton to write fiction for HC

<p>Former &quot;This Morning&quot; co-presenter Fern Britton has signed a two-book deal to write fiction for HarperCollins.</p><p>Publishing director Lynne Drew bought world rights, including audio, from Luigi Bonomi on behalf of Lacey Associates for an undisclosed sum. As part of the deal, Britton will also read the audiobooks.</p><p>The first book, as yet untitled, will be published in time for Mother&#39;s Day 2011. It follows Christie Lynch, a journalist and single mother who lands a high-profile television job but soon realises not all of her friends, nor her new agent, are to be trusted. Her mother disapproves of her fame and her daughter disappears but salvation seems to come in the form of Richard, a handsome single dad at her child&#39;s school.</p><p>Drew said: &quot;This riveting story is full of all Fern&#39;s warmth, insight and humour, delivering a really enjoyable novel that will reach out to women everywhere. I am hugely excited by Fern&#39;s move into fiction and look forward to a terrific bestseller.&quot;</p><p>Britton said: &quot;This story comes from my 30 years&#39; experience in television. Are the characters based on people I have worked with&mdash;have any of the storylines actually happened? Readers will have to read the novel to decide.&quot;</p><p>Britton&#39;s autobiography was published by Penguin last year. According to Nielsen BookScan, <em>My Story</em> has sold 222,095 copies across all editions.</p>
