Faber Children's publisher Leah Thaxton has signed her first titles for the imprint.
Thaxton, who joined Faber from Egmont six weeks ago, has acquired four books in a début series, Squishy McFluff: The Invisible Cat by Pip Jones, putting in a "major" pre-empt for world all-language rights, excluding film, TV and merchandise, from Julia Churchill at the Greenhouse Literary Agency.
The series, for readers aged five and over, is written in rhyming text, and features heroine Ava, and invisible cat Squishy. Faber will publish in spring 2014. Thaxton said the script "embodies my vision for Faber Children's going forward, which is discovering fresh, original, new voices; books that children will love and that will speak to them first and foremost."
Thaxton said she wants to grow the list "fairly dramatically", acquiring across every age group, as well as building on "Faber¹s reputation for quality and heritage . . . I am very aware of the shining gems on our backlist," Thaxton said.
