Faber has entered into a partnership with The Perseus Books Group in the US, setting up a company to provide global digital services for independent publishers in the UK, Ireland and Commonwealth.
Faber Factory Powered by Constellation will be a joint venture based in the UK, expanding the original Faber Factory project. Faber Factory clients, as well as Faber itself, will now be served by Faber Factory Powered by Constellation. Clients in the UK include Constable & Robinson and Atlantic Books, and more than 70 publishers are currently signed on to the original service which offers digital services including text digitisation, free storage, sales reporting and relationships with retailers and aggregators.
Stephen Page, Faber c.e.o. and publisher, said: "Faber Factory was conceived as an ambitious response to the enormous and liberating opportunity for independent publishers in the digital age. The power of partnering with Perseus makes this ambition immediately achievable, globally and long term we can offer market-leading tools, service and knowledge that will enable publishers based in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa the means to publish successfully."
Faber Factory Powered by Constellation will have a London-based client service team reporting to a board comprised of executives from both companies, with Faber planning to recruit additional staff in the future. Perseus is also increasing its Constellation staff in the US to accommodate its own growth. The executives on the board from Faber are sales and marketing director Will Atkinson and Faber Factory head of sales Simon Blacklock, with Anne Borysewicz and Ainsley Boe employed as account executives.
Constellation was launched in 2008, and is the leading digital service provider in the US with more than 200 clients and more than 20,000 titles digitised so far.
Faber Factory was launched in October 2010, with 18 UK publishers originally signed up.
