Faber scoops Wyatt and Benge's 'life's work'

Faber is to publish a work showcasing the lyrics, poems and drawings of musician Robert Wyatt and his creative partner and wife, painter and songwriter Alfie Benge.

Deputy head of Faber Social Dan Papps acquired world all language rights to Side by Side directly from the artists.

Robert Wyatt was a fouding member of the rock bands Soft Machine and Matching Mole, and had a solo career lasting over 40 years. Benge has managed Wyatt's career and collaborated on most of his well-known songs, in addition to her work as a visual artist.

Artist and collaborator Brian Eno said of the pair: "Whenever an aspiring musician asks me about songwriting I point them towards Robert and Alfie. Their work is so unusual, so perceptive, so playful and so grown-up... well, I don’t think there's really anyone to compare. If you want songs that touch your mind as well as your heart, these are the best. Wide distribution of this book could improve the state of music dramatically."

The book will be published in hardback on 17th September, with limited edition copies available, featuring four prints of Benge's artwork.
