Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker is set to publish a book of his song lyrics with Faber.
The book, entitled Mother, Brother, Lover: Selected Lyrics, was bought by Faber’s editorial director of fiction, Lee Brackstone, and editor Hannah Griffiths, from agent Kevin Conroy Scott at Tibor Jones & Associates. Faber bought world rights to publish the book, which will be released in October 2011. It takes its title from lyrics which Cocker said crop up an “embarrassing” amount of times in his songs.
Cocker said he was “flattered” by the idea he could be “be on the same shelf” as other poets Faber has published, which he claims are among his favourites. In an interview posted on Faber’s website, he said he had previously had an ambivalent attitude towards publishing his lyrics separately from the music, but felt “now the time has come.”
