Faber Children’s acquires Greenhouse prize winner

Faber Children’s has acquired the rights to Dave Pigeon by Swapna Haddow, the winner of this year’s Greenhouse Funny Prize.

Commissioning Editor Alice Swann acquired world rights to the book, which is about Dave’s plan on getting revenge on Mean Cat, from Polly Nolan at the Greenhouse Literary Agency.

Swann said she was “thrilled” to be publishing Dave Pigeon. “I've always known cats were evil, and Dave’s guide on how to defeat them will delight young readers. Swapna has a real talent for writing hilarious dialogue, and Dave’s voice is just right.”

The title is aimed at readers aged 6+ and will be published with full illustrations in spring 2016.

The book is the third Greenhouse Funny Prize winner acquired by Faber Children’s. In July, the publisher bought the rights to Murray the Horse, the winner of the Greenhouse Funny Prize 2013.

It also publishes Pip Jones’ Squishy McFluff series, which won the prize in 2012.
