Faber Children’s has acquired YA fantasy novel Rebel of the Sands by debut author Alwyn Hamilton.
The novel is the first in a trilogy and is about Amani, a sharpshooter who goes on the run with a boy wanted for treason.
Commissioning editor Alice Swan bought the UK and Commonwealth rights from Molly Ker Hawn at the Bent Agency.
Ker Hawn has sold rights to Penguin Viking in the US in an eight-publisher auction, as well as in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil and Turkey.
“Rebel of the Sands is one of the most accomplished debuts I’ve ever read; irresistibly readable and thoroughly imaginative, it beguiled me from the moment I read Alwyn’s pitch,” she said. “She’s an extraordinary talent.”
Faber Children’s will publish in February next year.
